7-2-9 Club
New York Avenue Presbyterian Church
1313 New York Avenue NW Washington, DC 20005
(202) 393-3700
The 7-2-9 Club was started on Valentine's Day 1979 as an outreach project for the recovering mentally ill. This was the beginning of one of the most unique, gratifying, and intellectual experiences that we have had here in the church. The club meets every Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 (which is how the club got its name). The membership consists of three primary groups: 20+ persons who currently reside at and are being treated at St. Elizabeths Hospital; 20+ persons who have been discharged from the hospital and come on their own from community residence facilities and their own apartments; and 4 to 6 volunteers from the church and community. All these persons come to be with each other, share experiences both good and bad, to discuss problems, and to exchange ideas. Please call church for details.

A Care Team will support its care partner for one to six months---with three months being typical. Care Team members help with real life needs, such as: Respite care, Household chores, and repairs, Transportation, Gardening and yard work, Errands and Meals, Social outings, Phone calls and letter writing, and Ministry of presence. All Care Team members complete the six-hour orientation before serving. An in-service pro-gram is provided annually.

ChristUnite.com, a website connecting people to ministries that help to strengthen a relationship with Christ, is shutting down in February 2011. The site’s owner has allowed others to distribute its very helpful information, including the DC area’s regional page. CU's information is not comprehensive, but it is substantial. The DC regional page is posted, with minor changes, on TCDC in this series.
For the churches with drama ministries, I hope you'll check out RileysDiner.com when you're looking for new sketches to perform. I wish you all the best with your ministry.
